About me
Ever since I could hold a pencil as a one-year-old, I’ve been obsessed with drawing. At the age of 12, I painted Van Gogh’s ‘Irises’ for my parents. It was at that precise moment that I knew I wanted to be an artist. But life often turns out differently than you imagined as a kid. I took another path and studied Law and pursued a Phd. I worked in the academica for quite a long time. Although I love to think about solutions to social issues that play a role in law, I missed (visual) creating. I made the choice to give art more space and started my education at The Wackers Academy for Figurative Art in Amsterdam.
I like to draw and paint subjects that are close to me or those which I admire. It can be portraits, still life or interior. For example, I drew (digitally) the portraits of my family that come from a family album that was miraculously preserved during the Second World War. The colorful drawings represent the colorful family, but also sharply contrast with the family history. Another example are my paintings of the interior of the ‘Huis Sonneveld’ from the 1930s. It is a beautiful house with magnificent light and is one of the best-preserved houses in the Dutch 'Nieuwe Bouwen' style. I mainly use image-making as a process for understanding, escaping, learning/teaching and connection.
Besides traditional mediums (I love oil paint), I draw digitally. In addition to digital art, I also make animations together with a motion designer, for example to make law more accessible to everyone (Spalter & Vanc).
